Orchids in our garden, taken in the light of mid-afternoon. I enjoyed looking at the lines of the stems and blooms here. Negative space is so fascinating.

Hello! I’m Mia, and I do all sorts of things with words, numbers, and images. Welcome to my place (one of my places, at least) on the web. This main blog is a place where I post my photos and images of my finished work and work in progress; these may range from pictures of my cat, or my cooking, or a nice restaurant I visited recently, to sketches and handwritten notes and elaborate ink-on-watercolor work. Words may of course accompany these images, whenever I feel like writing them; there are also a couple of old essays and assorted rambles scattered throughout the archives from before my decision to keep this as an image blog. Earlier I finally took a book out of the plastic wrapping it had lain in for… quite some time; I bought it a few months ago, meaning to read it, but never did manage to start. Its title is Dekada ’70, authored by Lualhati Bautista, and it is set in the Philippines during the period of martial law under Ferdinand Marcos. The calligraphy above is a phrase taken from the book’s last page, and it reads: iigting pa ang tapang. Courage will still intensify.
